FORMER THIRD-PARTY EMS BILLING COMPANY HAS DATA BREACH
Change Healthcare, which previously handled our EMS billing for the Willard Fire and Rescue Department, informed the US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) that their computer system had been compromised by a cybercriminal who was able to see and take copies of data in their computer system. This cyber-attack is believed to be the largest data breach ever in the United States, affecting 112 million citizens or a third of the US population.
The City of Willard changed our third-party EMS Billing Company to the AccuMed Group in April 2023. Although Change Healthcare was not contracted with the City of Willard during their breach between February 17, 2024, and February 20, 2024, it is unclear if our EMS billing data was part of the breach. To date, the City of Willard has not received notification from Change Healthcare at this point if any of our EMS customers were affected. However, we are being proactive, advising anyone who may have used our services to remain vigilant by checking bills and accounts. The data that may have been seen and taken during the Change Healthcare breach includes contact information (such as name, address, date of birth, phone number, and email) plus one or more of the following:
The data that may have been seen and taken was not the same for everyone. Some of this data may be about the person who paid the bill for health care services. If you were affected by this breach, Change Healthcare will offer free credit monitoring and identity protection services for two years.
More information can be found on the city of Willard’s website, or you may visit www.changecybersupport.com If you were directly affected by this data breach, you will receive a letter from Change Healthcare if you have not already received one.
