Willard, Ohio

Willard is a city in southwestern Huron County, Ohio approximately 14 miles southwest of Norwalk.

The city consists of 3.57 square miles with 3.55 of land and 0.02 of water.  Unincorporated areas include Celeryville, New Haven, and Holiday Lakes.

Willard was originally named Chicago; however, there was considerable confusion with Chicago, Illinois.  So, the name was changed to Chicago Junction.  This did not eliminate the confusion since there wasn’t sufficient room for Junction on the railroad boards.  In 1917, the name was changed to Willard in honor of B & O Railroad President Daniel Willard.  Willard became a city in 1960.
