Clerk of Council (Part-Time), City Council (Revised 2.15.2024)
We are looking to hire a motivated and experienced Clerk of Council to plan, manage and coordinate clerical duties for the City Council, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the City Development Commission. You will be responsible for recording minutes of the City Council, the ZBA and CDC, recording and maintaining all municipal documents, preparing meeting agendas and storing those records and documents. To excel in this position, you will need to have proven experience in collating and maintaining records and legal documents, working knowledge of relevant computer systems and gain an understanding of the City Charter, Ohio Revised Code and Federal Rules and Regulations. The Council Clerk position reports directly to the Council President and the Council Members. The Council Clerk position is a part-time position only, with no insurance or education reimbursement benefits. The maximum hours worked per week shall be 15 hours. If more hours are needed for any reason, the hours must be approved by the Council President. The hours will be worked in the office.
Clerk of Council Responsibilities:
Record, edit and distribute the minutes of the City Council meetings, held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Record, edit and distribute the minutes for the ZBA and CDC committees, held when necessary. Communicate effectively with management, government officials and staff. Draft meeting agendas. Record data and ensure that documents are stored, filed and maintained correctly. Utilize computer databases and software. Prepare and maintain official reports, legal documents, financial records and reference material. Certify and publish resolutions and ordinances that are passed by the council.
Clerk of Council Requirements:
Minimum of two years of office experience is desired. Computer skills and knowledge of software applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Time Management and organizational skills. You will observe the same Holidays as City Hall employees. Holidays City Hall is closed include New Year’s Day; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Day, Presidents’ Day; Good Friday, afternoon only; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; the day after Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If you plan to accept another job outside the city, you must make the Council President aware of your intentions. You must continue residency in Huron County or one of the surrounding counties, Erie, Lorain, Ashland, Richland, Crawford, Seneca and Sandusky. Your employment will be subject to all applicable laws, policies, charter provisions, and agreements.
