NEW IMPACTS US Route 224 (Conwell Ave) will be restricted to two 12-foot lanes beginning Tuesday, May 9th for storm sewer replacement under the US 224 eastbound lane from the Neal Zick Road intersection to the Old State Route 99 intersection. Two-way thru traffic and local business access shall be maintained throughout construction. Estimated completion for this phase: Friday, June 9, 2023 Traffic will be maintained by flaggers during the maintenance of traffic work zone set up and the installation of temporary work zone striping . Estimated completion for entire project: August 2023 US 224 SIDEWALK AND PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS
Through a grant with the Ohio Department of Transportation, the City of Willard will replace all sidewalks on US 224 between Main Street and Myrtle Ave. The new sidewalks will be handicap accessible and 5 feet wide. Other pedestrian improvements will occur with this project. We hope to secure additional funding in the future for the rest of US 224. WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS The City completed a water system analysis to identify where our water system needs improved. We have engineered the project and are currently looking to bid the project out. These improvements will occur at the water plant itself and the reservoir. Supply issues and increases in project costs have delayed the project. PARK STREET WATERLINE PROJECT The City replaced the 4" waterline on Park Street with an 8" waterline and removed all lead service lines. This summer, the City will then pave the road with our annual pavement project. OHIO PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION PROJECTS Every year we apply for a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. This grant money is competitively awarded and every year for over the last ten years we have won a portion of that grant money. We are happy to report that the City’s 2023 Street Improvements project has been recommended for approval and the City is set to receive over $100,000 in awards. RECREATIONAL PROJECTS IN THE WORKS FITCORE OBSTACLE COURSE at the Willard Park (Similar to the TV Show Ninja Warrior). This is a partnership with the Willard City Schools and Huron County Health Department. The majority of this project is being funded by grant money. Planned installation is in 2023. DOG PARK. We applied for and received just over $12,000 from an Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant. Fundraising is in the works for the remaining money needed for this project. NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. We applied for and received over $100,000 in a state grant for new playground equipment. OTHER PROJECTS The City is working with Columbia Gas on a large gas main replacement project in 2023. We are also working with Frontier on a City wide fiber optic installation project also in 2023. |
